Sheryl Crow criticizes Jason Aldean’s contentious latest track – ‘this goes against American values’
Sheryl Crow speaks out against Jason Aldean’s contentious new track – stirring intense discussions in recent days.
The 61-year-old native of Missouri actively participated in the debate surrounding the song ‘Try That in a Small Town,’ expressing her dismay and apprehension, stating that Aldean, 46, was perpetuating false perceptions with the song’s provocative lyrics.
Certain lines from the song caught her attention: “Got a firearm that my grandfather bestowed upon me / They claim one day they’ll gather up / Well, that stuff might be tolerated in the city, good luck / Try that in a small town.”
In her direct tweet to the country singer, Crow, who originates from a small town herself, emphasized that even small town residents are weary of violence.
“@Jason_Aldean I hail from a small town. Even in small towns, people are weary of violence. Promoting violence is not small-town-like or American. You should be aware of that, especially after surviving a mass shooting,” she tweeted.
“This goes against American values and small-town spirit. It’s simply unimpressive.”
She criticized the song’s endorsement of violence, asserting that it neither reflects American values nor represents the essence of small-town life. Crow also underscored that Aldean should be particularly sensitive to this issue, having survived a mass shooting during the 2017 Las Vegas concert tragedy, which claimed the lives of 60 people and left over 400 others injured.
The music video for ‘Try That in a Small Town,’ featuring Aldean performing in front of a courthouse known for historical lynchings, faced immediate backlash and was subsequently removed from CMT programming.
