According to reports from Mamas Uncut, Doherty, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, has now been informed by doctors that the cancer has spread to her brain. In a video she posted, Doherty can be seen tearfully undergoing radiation treatment.
The distressing update came to light on January 5th when Doherty received the news that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. She opened up about her fears in her writing, mentioning the first round of radiation that took place on January 12th. Doherty acknowledged her claustrophobia and the challenges she was facing in her life, expressing gratitude for her skilled medical team while also reflecting on the impact cancer can have on one’s life.
The emotional video captures the actress in tears during her initial radiation session and hints at the possibility of her contemplating divorce from her husband of 11 years, Kurt Iswarienko. Reports indicate that Doherty filed for divorce in April and her representative confirmed that it was a difficult decision for her, with allegations of involvement from Iswarienko’s agent.
TMZ reported that Doherty and Iswarienko had been living apart since January, around the time she received her cancer diagnosis. Although she hasn’t directly commented on the divorce news, Doherty posted a cryptic message about surrounding oneself with those who treat you with love and respect, prompting supportive comments from her friend, Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Doherty’s cancer journey began in 2015 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent various treatments, including hormone therapy, mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She entered remission in 2017 but tragically learned in 2020 that the cancer had returned, this time at stage IV metastatic breast cancer, spreading to other parts of her body, including her spine.
In 2020, she started hormone therapy along with another stabilizing drug, but the cancer is now considered terminal and may spread further to her brain, lungs, and liver. Throughout her battle, Doherty has shown incredible strength and resilience, confronting the challenges of her condition with a mix of emotions, including moments of questioning and acceptance.
Doherty’s initial diagnosis had a profound impact on her, and she vividly recalls the moment she learned about the lump, leading to a series of medical tests and consultations that eventually revealed the harsh reality of her condition.
