Susan Lucci, a renowned soap opera celebrity, has shared over five decades of wedded bliss with her husband, Helmut Huber. Despite the significant age gap, their relationship appears to be a perfect match.

Soap opera icon Susan Lucci took a leap of faith in her quest for true love. Before meeting her beloved husband, Helmut Huber, she had been engaged to another man, who was involved in a car accident that affected her life.

Despite the perilous circumstances, Lucci, hailing from New York, didn’t call off the engagement.

While pursuing her acting studies at Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, she got engaged to her then-fiancé, who happened to be the driver in an auto accident involving the couple. Their car collided with another vehicle.

Although she initially felt no pain, Lucci later revealed in June 1999 that the accident had caused severe injuries.

Upon arriving at the emergency room, staff members spoke of her in the past tense, commenting on her kindness before the tragedy.

Following the accident, Lucci underwent plastic surgery, remarking that she “definitely got better” despite previous doubts about recovery.

At the age of 18, Lucci crossed paths with Helmut Huber, who later became her husband and worked as an executive chef at the Garden City Hotel in New York.

Upon spotting Huber, she inquired about him to one of her close friends, who amusingly responded, “He’s your employer, moron.” Despite being nine years older than her, Huber was instantly captivated by Lucci.

Meanwhile, she was already engaged to another man, creating an intriguing love triangle.

However, during her engagement reception at a Long Island hotel, where Huber and Lucci’s parents first met, Lucci couldn’t help but think about him, sitting across from her and her then-fiancé. The thought lingered, leading her to ponder what it meant.

Huber approached Lucci’s mother, stating, “She deserves a man, not a boy.” This declaration resonated with Lucci, ultimately prompting her to end her engagement.

Though their relationship began with uncertainty, Huber made his intentions clear, expressing his desire to marry Lucci. Despite her initial reservations, the actress fell in love at first sight with him.

Their romance picked up pace, and just three months into their relationship, Huber proposed to Lucci, who eventually accepted. On September 13, 1969, less than a year after their first encounter, they tied the knot.

Huber not only supported Lucci throughout her career but also played a significant role in their family life. He stood by her side during her participation in “Dancing With the Stars” and provided unwavering love at home.

Lucci praised Huber’s unconditional support and wise counsel, appreciating his approachable nature and constant availability.

Despite the challenges of being married to a glamorous TV star, Huber’s confidence in their relationship remained steadfast. He never doubted their bond, even as Lucci portrayed various on-screen relationships.

Throughout their long marriage, the couple cherished each other’s company, with Huber eagerly awaiting Lucci’s return home every night.

Sadly, on March 28, 2022, at the age of 84, Helmut Huber passed away in Long Island, New York.

Huber’s death was a devastating loss for all who knew him, as he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born in Innsbruck, Austria, on October 10, 1937, Huber became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1994. His meeting with Susan Lucci in 1969 marked the beginning of their beautiful journey as husband and wife.

Lucci and Huber shared a wonderful partnership, attending red carpet events together, where he took pride in seeing her shine on stage.
