Luke, a six-year-old, surprised his mother Amy by claiming he had discovered his twin at school.

Amy, Jeff, and Luke had enjoyed a happy family life together for many years.

One afternoon, as Luke returned from school, he excitedly shared his day with Amy.

“Mom,” Luke began, “I swear…”

“What did we say about swearing?” Amy gently reminded him.

“Mom,” he continued earnestly, “I’m telling you, there’s a girl named Luna at school, and she’s my twin sister!”

“Luke,” Amy responded, puzzled, “You’re our only child, sweetheart.”

“No, Mom! I’m serious. Luna and I have the same birthday, and we look alike. The teachers even think we’re twins,” he insisted.

As Amy continued cooking, Luke enthusiastically described Luna and her interests.

“Mom, she’s great. You’ll like her!” Luke exclaimed.

With Jeff still at work, Amy assumed Luna was a close friend of Luke’s.

“Do you think you have a photo of Luna?” She asked Luke. He rushed to his room and brought back the class photo. As Luke pointed to Luna, Amy noticed her striking resemblance to her son.

“Why don’t we invite Luna over?” Amy suggested. “If her mom agrees, you two can have a playdate.”

“Do you think she’ll come?” Luke asked eagerly.

“I’ll speak to her mom tomorrow when I drop you off,” Amy reassured him with a smile.

When Jeff returned home, exhausted, they didn’t discuss Luke’s revelation. As Jeff went straight to bed after dinner, Amy lay awake, troubled by the day’s events.

The next morning, Amy met Penelope, Luna’s mother, after dropping Luke off at school. They arranged a playdate for the children.

“Luna talks about Luke all the time,” Penelope mentioned. “This will be wonderful for them.”

On the day of the playdate, Jeff was surprised to see freshly baked cookies and asked about the visitors.

“Yes,” Amy replied vaguely, wary of her husband’s reaction.

As the doorbell rang and Luke opened the door, Luna rushed toward Jeff, exclaiming, “Daddy! I told you she was my sister!”

Jeff paled at the sight of Penelope and Luna.

As the children played, Amy and Penelope discussed the situation.

“It was a long time ago,” Jeff explained. “Just before we found out you were pregnant with Luke.”

Amy learned about Jeff’s one-night affair and confronted him.

“So, you knew? The entire time?” Amy asked incredulously.

“I had to meet her,” Jeff confessed. “I didn’t know what else to do.”

Penelope admitted she had asked Jeff to keep Luna a secret, as she was content being a single mother with her family’s support.

“I never meant for any of this to happen,” Jeff apologized.

“Why would you enroll the kids in the same school?” Amy demanded. “Did you think their paths wouldn’t cross?”

Penelope clarified that Jeff wasn’t aware of Luna’s school enrollment and knew very little about her daughter.

Confused and needing time to process, Amy watched Luke and Luna play outside. Despite her broken trust in Jeff, she agreed to seek counseling for the sake of their son.
