Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan have been one of the most commendable couples in Hollywood for over three decades. Throughout these years of devoted matrimony, they have stood by each other through ups and downs, especially during Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease.
On the occasion of their recent 35th wedding anniversary, the actor shared a touching tribute to his beloved spouse.
35th anniversary
The 62-year-old Back to the Future star has shared numerous pictures of Tracy on social media over the years.
“In the course of 35 years, we’ve shared laughter, life, listening, and love,” Fox expressed in the caption. “Thank you for everything. Forever yours, Mike.”
“I love you so much!!!” Pollan responded in the comments. She also posted her own tribute to her husband on Instagram:
“Happy anniversary, my love. Here’s to many more incredible adventures together. I couldn’t adore you more,” she wrote.
Last month, Pollan turned 63, and Fox tweeted a heartfelt birthday message to her: “She showers the people she loves with affection, she shows them the way she feels,” he wrote.
“My eternal Summer girl, my love, my closest friend, and the most stunning, incredible mom to our four wonderful kids. Love, love, love you.”
Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan – a love story
Since 1988, Fox and Pollan have been married. Their first encounter occurred years before on the set of Family Ties, where Pollan played Alex P. Keaton’s fiancée. They collaborated again on the movie Bright Lights, Big City, and their romance blossomed.
The wedding ceremony took place on July 16, 1988. They have a son named Sam, identical twin daughters named Aquinnah and Schuyler, and a daughter named Esmé.
In 1991, just a few years into their marriage, Fox received a devastating diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
“It was frightening,” Fox recounted on The Late Show With David Letterman in 2015. “I was 29 years old and it was the last thing I expected to hear. I thought I had injured my shoulder doing some stunt because my pinkie was twitching. And the doctor said, ‘You have Parkinson’s disease.’ He said, ‘The good news is that you have 10 years of work left.'”
Fox credits his wife’s love and support for helping him through the toughest days as he came to terms with the condition.
“We had no idea what to expect,” Fox acknowledged. “And one of the things I will always admire Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn’t hesitate.”
For the past 35 years, they have been unwavering sources of love and support for each other, and their love continues to thrive.
“I believe we truly listen to each other, and we are there for each other when needed,” Pollan explained. “And we also give each other space when necessary. We just sense what’s needed at the moment and try to be there.”
“Tracy provides our family with everything we need. Any goodness in our family, anything positive that we want, comes from her,” Fox added.
While Fox announced his retirement from acting in 2021, he recently acknowledged that his struggle with Parkinson’s disease was “becoming tougher,” yet he maintained that he was still “content.”
Fox continues to do remarkable work with his Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds studies aimed at developing more effective therapies and a cure for Parkinson’s. Having raised over $1 billion for research initiatives, the organization is the largest non-profit funder of Parkinson’s disease research.
