Can You Recognize What This Enigmatic Item Is? Very few are finding it
Here’s some hints before you take a guess: these small additions became standard in almost all vehicles during the 1950s but vanished in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Now, there’s a valid reason you don’t see them anymore, but some individuals are quite upset about their disappearance. You see, they were utilized for a habit that many people still engage in, and adding one to your car can be costly.
Have you given up, or did you know right away?
That’s correct; this little compartment is a built-in ashtray, which seems almost unbelievable in today’s age.
For a variety of reasons, including pressure from the Surgeon General, the need to make room for electronics like door locks and auto windows, and a desire to keep customers content, car manufacturers phased out the ashtray in the 90s. Chrysler produced its last built-in ashtray in 1996.
If you still smoke, you probably purchased a “smoker’s package,” an ashtray that slides into your cup holder. It may not be as glamorous as the old flip-up version, but it serves the purpose just as well.
