In a revealing moment on PBS, Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View” and a vocaI advocate for reparations for sIavery, discovered her own ancestral ties to slave ownership.
Hostin, known for her firm stance on reparations for descendants of sIaves, embarked on a journey to trace her roots, a quest that led to an unexpected revelation. Hostin was confronted with the fact that her forebears were not just from Puerto Rico, as she had always beIieved, but originally hailed from Spain—and were slave owners.
“Wow. I’m a little bit in shock,” Hostin said. “I just always thought of myself as Puerto Rican. You know, half Puerto Rican. I didn’t think I was… My famiIy was originally from Spain and slaveholders.”
