The ‘Elderly Couple with the Most Enduring Marriage’ Reveals the Secret to Their 86 Years of Matrimony

One couple reveals the secret to a joyous partnership after commemorating 86 years of wedded bliss!

Ralph Kohler, aged 104, and his bride, Dorothy Kohler, aged 103, celebrated their anniversary on September 16th, marking 86 years of marital happiness! Over the decades, their love has nurtured a large and loving family, including three children, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Back in 1935, the young lovebirds tied the knot in Tekamah, Nebraska, with Ralph at 18 and Dorothy at 17. Despite initial obstacles when denied a marriage license due to their age, they persevered and found another way to say “I do,” and their commitment has stood the test of time.

Dorothy and Ralph credit “togetherness” as the key to their lifelong happiness. While they have different hobbies, they made a conscious effort to embrace each other’s interests, fostering a deeper connection. Ralph finds joy in clay target shooting, and Dorothy loves ballroom dancing. Instead of pursuing their hobbies separately, they decided to participate in both activities together, becoming fierce competitors in both disciplines and earning numerous awards in trapshooting and dancing.

Reflecting on their life together, Ralph shared that disagreements were few and far between, and any momentary tensions quickly dissipated. “A sharp word once in a while maybe, but it didn’t last,” he said.

Their story serves as a beautiful testament to enduring love and companionship. As the longest-living married couple in the country, Ralph and Dorothy have much to celebrate after 86 years of a truly remarkable marriage!
